Modernization of curbside recycling: Towards a new partnership between municipalities and the industry

November was Éco Entreprises Québec’s opportunity to introduce various participants from the municipal sphere to the modernization of curbside recycling and present changes that are to come over the next five years, more specifically regarding the roles and responsibilities of municipalities. 

Mathieu Guillemette, Principal Director of Services to municipalities, was invited to address three partner organizations in November in order to share ÉEQ’s vision regarding the modernization of curbside recycling, which will transition the system’s management over to the companies who market containers, packaging, printed matter and newspapers: 

  • On November 4th, as part of the annual conference on residual materials held by Réseau Environnement (see the presentation (in French)) 
  • On November 5th, to members of the Association des directeurs généraux des municipalités du Québec (ADGMQ)
  • On November 6th, to members of the Association des directeurs généraux des MRC du Québec (ADGMRCQ) 

The three presentations dealt with the new role companies will have, in partnership with municipalities, and specifically, how it will help us collectively achieve goals that aim to implement a true circular economy for recyclable materials. 

Until the modernized system is set up, ÉEQ and its partners will regularly keep municipalities appraised on the project’s advancement and any elements of interest.
