 YOU HAVE UNTIL OCTOBER 30 TO MAKE YOUR 1ST PAYMENT INSTALLMENT UNDER THE 2014 SCHEDULE OF CONTRIBUTIONS
ÉEQ would like to remind companies and organizations that their contribution under the 2014 Schedule of Contributions may be paid in two installments. The first installment equal to 40% of your total contribution is due by October 30, 2014; interest will be charged after that date. The remaining 60% will be due by January 26, 2015. Note that October 30, 2014, is also the deadline for providing documentation to support your request for a credit for recycled content.

 2015 SCHEDULE OF CONTRIBUTIONS: STATUS UPDATE
Companies and organizations should expect consultations on the 2015 Schedule of Contributions to take place next spring. The Government of Quebec is currently carrying out a municipal residual materials characterization “at destination” study, i.e. the materials sorting centres receive. The results of the study, due next March, will be considered in the calculation of municipal net costs for the 2015 Schedule of Contributions. The study will provide data on the percentage of orphan materials, also known as “other materials,” placed in recycling bins. Part of the cost of processing these materials is deductible from the financial compensation paid by industry under the 2015 Schedule. You will remember that, following representations made by ÉEQ and its partners, a temporary measure consisting in a 7.5% deduction was applied to the 2013 and 2014 Schedules of Contributions.

 ÉEQ LAUNCHES ITS ALL-NEW PACKAGING ECODESIGN TOOLS FOR COMPANY MANAGERS
ÉEQ is innovating and improving its packaging and printed matter ecodesign toolbox with the addition of a new optimization kit and a customized training program for managers of companies in all sectors and of all sizes who wish to integrate ecodesign into their existing business practices. The kit and training are complementary to the OptimEco.ca portal. The tools provide additional support for decision-making as well as content geared towards addressing the concerns of managers who wish to reap the benefits of ecodesigned packaging in the face of regulatory pressures as well as economic, environmental and social acceptability challenges.

 7 RMCs AND MUNICIPALITIES RECEIVE $138,964 FOR INSTALLING RECOVERY EQUIPMENT IN PUBLIC PLACES
Maryse Vermette, ÉEQ’s President and CEO, and Mario Bérubé, Director General, Politiques du milieu terrestre et de l’analyse économique at the Ministère du Développement durable, de l’Environnement et de la Lutte contre les changements climatiques, were pleased to highlight the efforts of seven Quebec RMCs and municipalities with regard to away-from-home materials recovery and to award them a total of $138,964 in Québec City, on September 26, 2014. “ÉEQ’s Away-from-Home Recovery Program is dedicated to creating the biggest away-from-home materials recovery network in North America,” said Ms. Vermette. Since its creation, the program has provided $4.5 million to 268 municipal organizations for the installation of 9,700 pieces of equipment.

 12 PHÉNIX PRIZES AWARDED AT THE 17TH EDITION OF THE COMPETITION
The prize award ceremony for the Phénix de l’environnement, Quebec’s highest distinction with regard to environmental performance, took place on September 18, 2014, at Quebec’s National Assembly. ÉEQ took part as a competition partner and was pleased to congratulate the twelve winners, among which were municipalities, private companies and academic institutions selected by an independent panel. At the ceremony, Denis Brisebois, Chairman of ÉEQ’s Board of Directors, presented the award for best “Environmental/Technological Project, Process or Practice” to François-Philippe Champagne from Bionest for their development of a solution unique in Canada to prolong the life of ponds. The application of this technology could result in significant cost savings for municipalities.

 OPTIMECO.CA SHINES A LIGHT ON SUCCESSES!
In 2010 and after 7 years of R&D, Naya was the first company in the world to market its product in water bottles made with 100% post-consumer recycled plastic (rPET). In addition, by increasing bottle volume from 500 to 600 ml, the company reduced its packaging/product weight ratio by 17%. All curbside recycling stakeholders are invited to contribute to the improvement of the system by considering every step that goes into processing recyclable materials.
