In its role as contribution collector, ÉEQ places the Schedule of Contributions at the heart of its work. As in previous years, we held consultation meetings last November to collect comments on our draft 2015 and 2016 Schedule of Contributions. Over 3,300 targeted companies and organizations were invited to participate in the two meetings, which 151 company representatives attended either in person or online and shared their comments and concerns.

Following up on the information received, we evaluated several scenarios to identify the most appropriate measures that would mitigate the effect of significant rate hikes while maintaining fairness among all companies and the integrity of the fee formula. A webinar will be given next week to provide the latest information on the matter. Contributing companies have a real voice in the process, and we thank you for participating in such great numbers.

As the draft Schedule was adopted by ÉEQ’s Board on April 6, 2016, it is expected that RECYC QUÉBEC will issue its recommendation for government approval and subsequent publication in the Gazette officielle du Québec in the coming weeks. As always, we will keep you informed about developments on this issue.

In its winter 2016 edition, 3RVe magazine drew a portrait of the man behind the glass implosion technology that ÉEQ will be putting to the test in certain Québec sorting centres over the coming months. In “Steve Whettingsteel, l’homme derrière la révolution du verre,” André Dumouchel and Émilie Pelletier give a detailed explanation of the glass implosion technology that allowed us to make the first measure of our Innovative Glass Works Plan a reality. See the digital version of the magazine and the explanatory video.

Éco Entreprises Québec (ÉEQ) is the organization that develops the Schedule of Contributions and collects company contributions, which are then redistributed to finance municipal curbside recycling services in Quebec. ÉEQ also encourages innovation and sharing of best practices in order to optimize the recyclable materials value chain. To do so, ÉEQ cooperates, on the one hand, with companies to reduce quantities of materials at the source and encourage the use of recyclable materials, as well as with municipalities to increase recycling and the economic value of recovered materials.

ÉEQ is a private non-profit organization created by companies that put containers, packaging and printed matter on Quebec’s market to represent them. The organization was accredited by RECYC-QUÉBEC in 2005 in accordance with the Environment Quality Act.
